Meter types

The 5 available types of meter are described below.

If the meter is a VIDI Flow, the Unidirectional type must be selected.

Unidirectional Meter

Expresses the flow in absolute value, typically in l/s. The value of the flow can never be negative. The flow rate is measured only in one direction.

It is installed where the water can flow only in one direction. It is the most common type of meter in water distribution networks.

Configuration:
– Enter the name of the flow measurement tag.
– Select the flow direction (IN: water flows into the DMA; OUT: water flows out of the DMA).

Bidirectional meter type A

This type of meter measures the flow measurement with sign.

It is installed on pipelines where the water can flow be alternately in or out of the DMA.

Configuration:
– Enter the name of the flow measurement tag.
– Select the flow direction (IN: water flows into the DMA; OUT: water flows out of the DMA) if positive. In case of negative reading, the opposite direction is automatically set.

Bidirectional meter type B

This type of meter measures the water flow in both directions (in and out of the DMA).

It is installed where there are two pipes where the water flows in the opposite direction..

Configuration:
– Enter the name of the tag which measures the water flow into the DMA.
– Enter the name of the tag which neasures the water flow out of the DMA.

Bidirectional meter type C

This type of meter is equivalent to the bidirectional meter type B with the difference that in the case of flow into the DMA, the input flow measurement takes a valid value, while recording an out-of-range measurement for the output flow.

On the contrary, in the case of DMA output flow, the output flow measurement takes a valid value, while an out-of-range measurement is recorded for the input flow.

Configuration:
– Enter the name of the tag which measures the water flow into the DMA.
– Enter the name of the tag which neasures the water flow out of the DMA.

Bidirectional meter type D

From a hydraulic point of view, the meter is equivalent to the type A gauge.

In this case, however, the measurement of the flow with sign is provided in the form of two tags: one measure (analog) expresses the flow in absolute value while the second (digital) expresses the sign.

Configuration:
– Enter the name of the analog tag which measures the water flow in absolute value.
– Enter the name of the digital tag indicating the flow direction.
– Select the flow direction (IN: water flows into the DMA; OUT: water flows out of the DMA) in case the digital signal is OFF (value = 0). In case the digital signal in ON (value = 1) the opposite direction is automatically set.
